RUCKUS: Typography deck of cards

This was my final project for Type 1 @ City College.

The objective was to create characters and suits using only typography.

I decided on vintage looking kids as characters, but stayed true to my love

for vibrant color. They also have a lime green & teal pattern on the back.

Here is a sample of a gift envelope/bag for my logo/branding class.
I've been working on little snippets of branding for this hotel the whole semester.
My next and final project will be a series of candles to be sold in the giftshop.
I'm excited to see how it will turn out especially after so many hours of lurking around
Target and candle stores, scalping out their candle packaging.

Really excited that I could use Photoshop for an online health class.
These are my two favorite fonts at the moment, and love how the more
retro font in 'Health' and 'Wellness' almost play off the more vintage toned
circles.

I snapped this photo with my camera hanging on my

shoulder, pressing the button near my waist.

Most of these shots were of people's feet,

which is what I wanted, and most didn't turn out.

Surprisingly I enjoyed this one and would have

never noticed the lights on the ground had I not

seen this photo. Hmm.

So I've been playing around with different ideas

for logos/album covers for my friend Conor both

yesterday and today. This is one of many ideas I've

been playing around with and I find pleasing even

if it isn't exactly what I am trying to achieve.

So after listening to Ron from Miriello Graphico,

he pointed out that at first it is all about experiences.

While I've told people this many think it is a bad idea to

not charge for work,but also keep in mind that both I am learning and

others may not always have funds to get the kind of design they deserve.

Until I am confident and and while I'm still humble I will take on as

many extra projects as I can as long as they aren't hazardous to my health.

Graphic Design Project

I haven't posted classwork yet, but I may as well start.

Here is something I'm working on in a Graphic Design

class which has to do with animating a series of three points

evolving over time through motion.

The 'abstract' concept is about the growth of coffee beans

to becoming coffee cups.

I used the color blue to represent the sky, greenish browns for

dirt & something triggered the orange to remind me of the

inside of a persons home walls.

This will eventually become a little accordion booklet

with hard covers front and back & will be posting photos

when it is done.

Yesterday I scored some new camera filters at

George's Camera Supply for a really low price.

It blows my mind how a very old filter can cause

an effect that today anyone can whip up in Photoshop.

I'm excited to start a series of these photos in both

black & white film for a class I'm taking right now

and also with my digital camera.

We (H&M) currently have these bags from our garden collection that is out now.
The bags themselves are noticeably different from the rest of the bags in both texture and smell.
They feel gritty and smell like seeds, very eco-friendly.

As soon as I saw this banner I knew I could have remade it, plus I love fonts.
So I did just for fun.. mine is on the left.

Maybe one day I can be a graphic designer for H&M, that'd be amazing.

A few years ago I wondered how photos from

I Love Lucy looked colored in

though they were originally B&W.

Turns out it was really simple you just have to be

really careful if you want it somewhat precise.

I made this photo B&W then colored it in

with the pen tool>>edited blending modes for

the same vintage effect.

I've never been really clean with craftsmanship

and since I've accepted that,

most of my work will now be almost a little sloppy/off for some style.

Making artwork that can be easily covered in text to be used for either
album covers, banners, or flyers for music related events.
It seems a lot of time is spend deciding what faux text is going to be used.

I feel it isn't right to use band names,
but when I use my own name it changes everything completely.

I'll try it anyway. :]

Other obsessions:
Triangles, bold patterns, doodling with my new tablet,
hand drawn artwork, geometric, etc.

Also set up some lights and since I'm still getting the hang of it,
a lot of family/tester shots of myself with editing for fun.

Played with my new Alienbees.

It's quite hard and embarrassing running back and forth adjusting lights

setting the self timer, and acting like a model at the same time.

I actually laugh after every shot imagining someone coming home

and seeing what I'm doing.

I love tinting photos red or blue and thought it was interesting

how the red color almost looked like my skin tone as this was

previously black & white.
